A LOVE, COMPLIMENTED
It was late on an afternoon in Unionville, Connecticut. An unusual sight caught my attention; a older man hunched over a woman he pushed in a wheelchair. Her black hair flowed behind them in the breeze. I pulled into the parking lot and watched them; it seemed the man had no sight and was relying on the woman to tell him where to push. Stepping out, I introduced myself and asked them who they were.
They told me their names: Tom and Theresa; that they were dating and were to be married in a year. Theresa took the lead and explained that they met in an assisted living facility for adults with disabilities. Tom was blind, but could walk; she had cerebral palsy, and had limited movement, but that she could see. Their abilities as a couple overcame their disabilities as an individual. Theresa and Tom's kindness towards me was immediate. I asked if I could document them in the coming year, and they agreed. I photographed them usually once a week, documented their journey through their honeymoon night.
